Sharing Your Digital Business Card

When sending a message to your contacts, you can inform them of your new number and have them update the contact information on their phone easily, via email and/or text as illustrated below.

Please note, we don’t recommend sending mass texts or emails to your entire group with this information, as it’s been most effectively utilized when provided in a 1-on-1 fashion. Also, we have seen some instances of contact cards not transferring correctly between iOS and Android devices…so make sure you test your phone to make sure it’s able to do it before relying on that as a distribution method.

If your phone is not able to send contacts directly to other types of phones, you’ll need to store your Digital Card online and share a link to it instead. Instructions for publishing your Digital Card and getting a shareable link are included in the “Sharing Via Email” section below.

Sharing Via Text Message

Go to the new contact that you created with all of your information. Both iOS and Android include functionality to easily send a contact via text message:

On an iPhone:

  1. Scroll to the very bottom of the Contact screen
  2. Tap the “Share Contact” link
  3. Choose the “Message” option
  4. This will open the texting app

On an Android Phone:

  1. Tap the menu icon in the top right corner of the Contact screen
  2. Tap “Share” in the dropdown menu
  3. Choose your texting app from the choices that pop up.

Then, simply compose a brief message to accompany your Digital Business Card, like this:

Hey {ClientName} it’s {YourName} – I just got a new number. Click on my name to update my contact info on your phone. I’m looking forward to our next session!

Sharing Via Email

To share your contact via email one client at a time from your phone, use the same steps as you would to share via text message, except in step 3, you would simply choose your Mail app and then compose an email.

If you’re an email power user and want to send out an email marketing campaign with a link to your Digital Business Card, you’ll need to host your business card online where the recipients will be able to access it. If you have Google Drive, Box.com, or the DropBox app installed on your phone already, you’re most of the way there. If you don’t, you’ll need to either install one of those apps (if you have a Gmail address, you already have a Google Drive account) before you proceed.

Publishing your digital business card and getting a shareable link:

On an iPhone:

  1. Scroll to the very bottom of the Contact screen
  2. Tap the “Share Contact” link
  3. Choose choose whichever app you have (Google Drive, Box, DropBox) and follow the prompts to share your contact to that app

On an Android Phone:

  1. Tap the menu icon in the top right corner of the Contact screen
  2. Tap “Share” in the dropdown menu
  3. Choose choose whichever app you have (Google Drive, Box, DropBox) and follow the prompts to share your contact to that app

Get your shareable link:
Next, you’ll need to get the link to the file that you’ve uploaded via your file storage app.

  1. Access the service that you shared the file to
  2. Locate the file
3. From the file’s sharing options choose “Copy URL”, whichever works best for your workflow (exact wording will vary depending on the app you’re working with).
  4. Create a shortened link (the link that the storage app gives you will be long and ugly) by going to http://bit.ly – just paste the long link you have into the box, and bit.ly will give you a shortened version to use instead.
  5. Insert the bit.ly link into your message

Best Practices

Selecting the ideal photo for your digital business card

  • A picture of your head and shoulders. For brands (i.e., if you’re promoting a gym or training company rather than an individual), a professional logo may be used.
  • Not cropped from a group picture – don’t take your face from a crowd of people.
  • Asymmetric is Cool – come on, show off your ‘better side’ ?
  • Front-lit – You want your trainees to be able to clearly see you…not left wondering who that is lurking in the shadows!
